Antique 1914-1918 Turkish Prisoner of War Beaded Snake Necklace

£250.00

Remarkable and rare, this beaded snake necklace was handcrafted by Turkish prisoners of war between 1914-1918.

Condition Report:

Excellent - The bead strand and loop at the end of the tail have been added to the piece by a professional beadwork restorer to allow the snake to be worn as a necklace. This is sympathetic to the piece and works beautifully with the original beadwork.

This stylish necklace dates from the 1930s and evokes the Machine Age aesthetic of the era. It was most likely made in Germany by the Jakob Bengel company.

Condition Report:

Very Good - Some rubbing to the plating on the large loops of the necklace where they have rubbed against the links as the necklace has been worn. This is only visible upon very close inspection and does not detract from the appeal of the piece.
