The Details...
This gold plated bracelet features 4 crinkle edged ovals detailed with Dior’s signature ‘cannage’ design in two alternating styles (one large, open weave and one fine, closed weave). The bracelet fastens with a lobster claw clasp. The bracelet is signed. Next to the clasp, there is a signature 'CD' logo charm. This is engraved with 'Chr.Dior' and a copyright symbol. The reverse of one of the bracelet's panels is stamped with this mark too. The bracelet measures 17cm.
A Short History...
This bracelet is an excellent example of Christian Dior's dazzling, yet wearable, jewellery from the 1980s. It is a must for fans of the French design house too due to its incorporation of the 'cannage' design. Indeed, 'cannage' was the name given to the wickerwork on the Napoleon II style gilded chairs that Mr Dior invited guests to sit upon during his Haute Couture fashion shows. These chairs became a key symbol of Dior's timeless elegance and the 'cannage' motif has been incorporated in many of the houses' designs - handbags, makeup and, as seen here, jewellery. Dior has recently introduced the 'cannage' work into its fine jewellery collections designed by Victoire de Castellane. This bracelet presents an affordable opportunity to wear such iconic design.
Wear it With...
This bracelet is a wardrobe essential - it will enable you to add Dior's elegance and cool to any look. Pair it with a softly tailored trouser suit by day for work and wear it with a cocktail dress in neutral tones for evening.
The jewellery within the Gemma Redmond Vintage collection has survived to this day because it has been well cared for throughout its lifetime. It is important to continue to care for the jewellery that you buy from us to ensure its continued preservation. Here are some suggestions:
- Be sure to store your jewellery within the boxes that we provide to ensure that it is protected. This is especially important when travelling with your pieces.
- Try not to get perfume or hairspray on your items. These liquids can damage the materials that our jewellery is made from.
- Try not to drop your jewellery or catch your jewellery against hard surfaces. If this happens over time, the findings and fixings can loosen and wear.
- Try not to get your jewellery wet. Some costume jewellery manufacturers utilised water soluble glue in the making of their pieces. Getting your jewellery wet could cause rhinestones and other details to fall away over time.
- If you wish to clean your jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth or a soft brush.
