The Details...
This brooch is constructed from silver - it is stamped 'STERLING SILVER' on the reverse. It features a typical Art Nouveau design that appears to represent a plume of feathers. It is set with small, round, colourless paste stones. At the brooch's centre is an oval turquoise glass cabochon. The fastening pin is fitted to the brooch with a round hinge and the brooch secures with a 'C' clasp. The brooch measures 9.5cm x 1.5cm. This piece appears to have originally been part of a hair comb or tiara. However, its conversion to a brooch is historic, probably occurring not long after it was made.

A Short History...
The jewellery of the Art Nouveau period can be exemplified by an allusion to the natural world. This brooch is particularly representative of this aesthetic phase, which began in the 1880s and started to wane in the 1900s/1910s.
